skin creams for facial hyperpigmentation treatment

There are two different types of active ingredient that work on your skin to treat hyper pigmentation. These are skin brighteners (botanicals) and skin lighteners, both of which are chemicals.

Best skin hyperpigmentation treatment

The most popular ingredient that has been used for decades for skin lightening is called hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is a melanin inhibitor. This means that when new skin cells develop and come out to the outer layers of skin, they contain fewer cells of the hyper pigmented skin. Hydroquinine found in many skin creams and lotions, but is commonly not used properly.

The benefits that can be gained through using hydroquinone are cancelled by being exposed to the sun! So if you use a skin lightener in the day, and go outside without putting on any sunscreen the skin lighting cream will be of no use.

Skin Brightener creams & lotions

Skin brighteners include kojic acid, azelaic acid, mulberry extract, bearberry extracted and licorice extract. Although they are not yet proven to be as effective as hydroquinone, these skin brightening ingredients are a good alternative treatment for people who are allergic to hydroquinone. Skin brighteners work best when used together with glycolic acid. This is because the glycolic acid helps the skin brightening ingredients penetrate to deeper layers of skin.

Skin care program to treat skin hyperpigmentation

1. Clean the skin with a cleanser that is suitable for your specific skin type.

2. Use a Vitamin C serum on the face. Vitamin C can help provide us with a more even skin tone. It also works to treat skin discoloration from the outer layers. This step isn’t completely necessary, but it will help bring about positive results to your skin faster.

3. Use a skin brightener or lightener cream. Apply the cream into the skin evenly. Hydroquinone in over the counter forms can be bought in up to 2% concentrations. Higher concentrations of hydroquinone can be obtained with a prescription from the doctor.

4. Apply sunscreen with a high SPF.
